Today we officially kick off the start of Ayla Speaker for the Dead.  This has been a long time in the making and I can’t even begin to express to all of you how excited I am by this.  This short post is just going to give you a little information about what we’re trying to do here and we’ll save the meatier stuff for future posts.

First let’s get the introductions out of the way.   The person behind the keyboard and putting all the words you’ll see on this site is John Holland.  Which is me.  I’ve been writing comics off and on for more years than a lot of  you have been alive probably.  I started with some short work with Sam Kieth and moved on from there.  I’m not going to bore you all with a list of my credits (as short as they really are), I’ll wait for sometime in the future after we get to know each other to do that.  I’m the writer and creator of Ayla.  I live just outside one of the greatest cities in the world, New Orleans.

The man making my words look so cool is Javi Laparra.  Javi is from Guatemala City, Guatemala.  Javi is doing super human work here.  He draws, inks, colors and letters every page.  I really don’t have words that can convey how much I am in awe of this man’s talent.

Our logo was created by the talented Phil Woodward from Portsmouth England.  We are truly an international group here.  Before Phil intervened I was toying with my limit skills on creating a logo, but once I saw what he was capable of I immediately threw away and will never mention any such attempt again.

Now that we have proper introductions out of the way, let’s talk a little about what we’re going to do here.

Every Wednesday (knock on wood, throw salt over your shoulder, whatever good luck charms you know we appreciate to keep us on track) we plan on posting a brand new page.  The current storyline is titled “It’s Alright Ma, I’m Only Bleeding” and I have no idea how many pages it will take up.  All I can say it will be done when it’s done.  I have an ending, I’m just not sure how many pages it will take to get there.

Mondays and Fridays I hope to post blog pieces.  Monday will be about the series, background information, behind the scenes, etc.  I’ve always found this type of stuff fascinating, so I hope you do too.  Fridays will be more free form, anything from what I’m thinking about that day to what comics I’m enjoying.

I know only one page a week is going to be a slow process, that’s part of why we want to post the other two pages also.  At least to give you something to read about from us.   But we hope you’ll hang in there and give us the time to grow on you.  I really think you’ll like Ayla and her world.

The only other thing I’d like to mention is that we welcome your feedback.  Please drop us a line or comment, let us know what you think.  Let’s have as much interaction as we can here.

Thanks for taking the time to stop and read this today.  We hope you’ll come back and continue to follow the story of Ayla Speaker for the Dead.
